History

Founded in 1989, the FIAMS (Festival international des arts de la marionnette à Saguenay – International Puppetry Arts Festival in Saguenay) is a major biennial event in the world of all-ages puppetry. It has had a significant impact on the development of puppetry arts and theatre. It is the only major theatre event in Quebec to take place away from the urban centres of the province. The quality of its programming, the rich exchanges it proposes and the warm welcome it offers have all granted it national and international recognition.

The FIAMS does more than showcase the work of national and international creators. It is also a place for professionals to exchange and talk craft, by way of various activities such as conferences, training sessions, round tables, specialized workshops, themed nights, etc.

The festival facilitates meetings between artists, programmers and international agents to enable theatre companies to establish contacts and create international opportunities.

Most importantly, the FIAMS team’s first objective is to offer the public a festive event where people of all ages come together to enjoy the art of puppetry.
